November Speaker Dr Tom Herald
Technology and Obsolescence Sustainment for Integrated Systems
Thursday, November 19, 2009
Technological obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when a technology is no longer needed or wanted, even though it may still be a good working order. In today’s complex systems, technological obsolescence must be considered in order to foster the successful execution of a systems engineering project. Changes that are due to technological obsolescence fall into two categories: “have to changes” and “want to changes”. In this presentation, Dr. Tom Herald will discuss the issues related to technological obsolescence and will present some solutions that will lead to the successful execution of systems engineering project.
Dr. Tom Herald is a Principle Engineer and Senior Manager with the Simulation, Training, and Support division of Lockheed Martin. He has over 25 years of experience at IBM, Loral, and Lockheed Martin. His specialties include technology obsolescence management, systems engineering, and enterprise systems. The focus of his research has been to provide the systems engineer with an integrated approach for the development and execution of technology obsolescence management. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology. He serves as an Industry Associate Professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology. He is also the Vice President, and President-Elect, of the INCOSE Orlando Chapter.
