April Speaker Dr. Jim Hinderer
Innovation Opportunities in Systems Engineering
Thursday, April 16, 2009
The discipline of Systems Engineering provides many opportunities for innovations, newly introduced ideas or concepts that provide tangible benefits to companies and individuals. This presentation will focus on how companies and individuals can take advantage of innovation opportunities to become more competitive, to increase their effectiveness in meeting cost and schedule demands, and to foster stronger customer relationships.
Dr. Jim Hinderer is a systems engineer, currently retired, with over 40 years of experience at Raytheon, Texas Instruments, General Dynamics, and DuPont. His specialties are systems engineering and automatic control. He has developed airborne electronics including line-of-sight stabilization, fire control, guidance, forward-looking infrared radar, GPS, and automatic target detection. He currently teaches systems engineering fundamentals and system design at Southern Methodist University, and he has taught automatic control and statistical thermodynamics. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

This was an excellent presentation. Dr Hinderer presented a number of opportunities that the engineering community should take advantage of. The presentation created great discussion. In my opinion, the greatest of opportunities is the automation and use of modeling/simulation to move a system development down a critical path.
