Dr. Arthur Pyster is a Distinguished Research Professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology and the Deputy Executive Director of the Systems Engineering Research Center. He is also the project leader for BKCASE. Dr. Pyster has held several senior management and senior technical roles at various companies and organizations. During his career, he directed the creation of three competency models for systems engineering, oversaw more than $10 billion in investment, directed the creation of several systems and software engineering methods, delivered telecommunications systems with extremely low defects, and managed training programs. He is an INCOSE Fellow. During 2008-2009, he chaired the INCOSE Corporate Advisory Board and was a member of the INCOSE Board of Directors. He received his Ph.D. in Computer and Information Sciences from The Ohio State University.

One of the ways that INCOSE brings value to its stakeholders is through its more than 30 Working Groups. INCOSE Working Groups are composed of INCOSE members who are interested in building their expertise and contact in a particular area of systems engineering or who have expertise to some level and are interested in sharing that with others. INCOSE Working Group members participate in many activities such as creating unique products, reviewing technical papers, participating in panels or tutorials, helping to develop or review international standards, and supporting technical initiatives. INCOSE Working Groups focus on many areas of systems engineering, from air transportation to defense systems to information systems to net-centric operations to verification and validation. This presentation will discuss INCOSE Working Groups and how you can get involved in this dynamic area of INCOSE.

Reliability analysis is a useful technique for measuring the performance of components over time. It is also useful for determining the reliability of a system. Increased reliability results in greater value to the Customer. In this presentation, we will discuss ways to define and measure the reliability of a logistics system. We will present the ways in which a logistics system can significantly impact the reliability of other systems and the overall cost of a project. We will then discuss solutions that can improve the reliability of a logistics system, resulting in great overall cost savings to a project and in greater value being delivered to the Customer.

Dr. Gerard Ibarra was the President and CEO of Buildwave Technologies, Inc., a software and technology company that provides solutions to help companies identify, track, and analyze the events generated by their systems. He and his partner sold Buildwave on July 31, 2009, to iWave Software, LLC. Previously, he ran his own consulting business focusing on logistics systems engineering, life cycle costs analysis, and marketing. He has worked in the logistics, business operations, and marketing fields. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Science from Southern Methodist University, where he also received an M.S. in Systems Engineering and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He is an adjunct professor in the graduate engineering and business programs for SMU and the University of Dallas, respectively.

Technological obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when a technology is no longer needed or wanted, even though it may still be a good working order. In today’s complex systems, technological obsolescence must be considered in order to foster the successful execution of a systems engineering project. Changes that are due to technological obsolescence fall into two categories: “have to changes” and “want to changes”. In this presentation, Dr. Tom Herald will discuss the issues related to technological obsolescence and will present some solutions that will lead to the successful execution of systems engineering project.

Dr. Tom Herald is a Principle Engineer and Senior Manager with the Simulation, Training, and Support division of Lockheed Martin. He has over 25 years of experience at IBM, Loral, and Lockheed Martin. His specialties include technology obsolescence management, systems engineering, and enterprise systems. The focus of his research has been to provide the systems engineer with an integrated approach for the development and execution of technology obsolescence management. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology. He serves as an Industry Associate Professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology. He is also the Vice President, and President-Elect, of the INCOSE Orlando Chapter.
